Intro: Second Day

If you read the Beginner`s Guide and followed it you should have at least a hole in a hill with about 2 torches, a Crafting Table Crafting Table Transparency No Luminance No Blast resistance 12.5 Tool Renewable Yes Stackable Yes (64) Flammable No, but catches fire from lava Drops Itself Data value dec: 58 hex: 3A bin: 111010 Name crafting_table The crafting table (also minecraft , and a worn-down wooden pickaxe Pickaxe Type Tools Durability Wood: 60 Uses Stone: 132 Uses Iron: 251 Uses Golden: 33 Uses Diamond: 1562 Uses Renewable Yes Stackable No Data values See data values Name See data values Pickaxes are one minecraft . This day will guide you in making a cobblestone house, instead of your hole in a hill.

When you venture outside after surviving your first night, be on the lookout for hostile mobs. Later, you will be hunting them, but that`s after you get both weapons, and a proper food supply. Also, keep track of where you are, using the debug screen Java Edition Only Screenshot showing the debug information "Debug" redirects here. For world type, see Debug mode. The debug screen is triggered when the F3 key is pressed. It shows the chunk cache, the memory minecraft if needed. If you do get killed at this point, you haven`t lost much, and you`re presumably still near spawn -- just head back to your death site to collect your few items.

At this stage, creepers are deadly -- run away until they despawn or lose track of you. Skeletons and zombies may survive in shady spots; lead them into the sun and avoid them until they burn to death. Spiders will mostly be neutral, so just avoid them; if one has targeted you, lead it into the sun and run it around until it loses interest.

Collect any loose items you see: bones, arrows, rotten flesh, eggs, and wool. Destroy any tall grass you see and collect the seeds. You might break and grab some mushrooms too -- if you can get both kinds of mushrooms, you can make mushroom soup. All these things will help you sooner or later.

Back to mining

The foundation of everything is mining. Begin by mining some stone Stone Transparency No Luminance No Blast resistance 30 Tool Renewable Yes Stackable Yes (64) Flammable No Drops Cobblestone (1) Data value dec: 01 hex: 1 bin: 1 Name stone See the block called stone. For minecraft with your pickaxe. You should craft a stone pickaxe because it mines faster and has more durability. When you mine a stone block, it should drop a crumbly block called cobblestone. This is what you can use to make your house. It has an explosion resistance of 30, which isn`t enough to stop a creeper Creeper Health points 20 () Attack strength Varies by proximity and difficulty. Maximum damage: Normal: 49 ( × 24.5) Charged: 97 ( × 48.5) Size Height: 1.7 Blocks Width: 0.6 Blocks Spawn Light level of minecraft `s explosion but it will do for the second day. You can also use cobblestone to make stone weapons and tools. These last longer, with 132 uses. You can make a stone pickaxe by replacing the wooden planks with cobblestone when making a pickaxe. After crafting it, collect approximately 50-80 pieces of cobblestone. Make sure to light up your mine, otherwise you will be killed by the various mobs!

Construction

By now it should be the middle of the day. Build a three-block high wall that is about 5ℂₗ4. Then you can seal it over with cobblestone as a roof, or you can make an overhang on the top to prevent spiders climbing in (that means one block along the outside top edge of the hovel where the walls would turn into roof). Also, leave a 1ℂₗ2 gap so you can walk in and out.

Doors

With the wooden planks you have (if you don`t have any, chop down a tree and craft some) craft a door Door Transparency Yes Luminance No Blast resistance 15 (Wood) 25 (Iron) Tools Renewable Yes Stackable Yes (64) Flammable Iron: No Wooden: No, but catches fire from lava Drops Itself Data values See Data values Name minecraft . You can do this by filling up the crafting table with wooden planks in the first two columns from the left (it works from the right too). Collect the wooden door and place it in the gap of your house. Right-clicking on it will open it. Right-clicking it again will close it.

You can also craft an iron door Door Transparency Yes Luminance No Blast resistance 15 (Wood) 25 (Iron) Tools Renewable Yes Stackable Yes (64) Flammable Iron: No Wooden: No, but catches fire from lava Drops Itself Data values See Data values Name minecraft if you have iron. Mobs cannot pass through these doors, but can attack you if you place the door from the inside, certain mobs such as the skeleton, which can fire arrows, will attack through the door. To prevent this, go outside of your house and place the door in the doorway. This will be an outward facing door and prevents attacks. Also do not place a wooden pressure plate on the outside of your house if you use a iron door, as this will let the mobs including creepers open the door, and a creeper in the house is a bad thing!

Repairing tools

To fix a tool, put two of the same tool in the crafting table next to each other. This will replace the two old items with a new item that is either unused, or has slightly more remaining uses than both the old items together. This applies to any tool that has durability, including swords and bows. Eventually you will have enchanted tools and/or weapons—then you can start using anvils. (Note! You can repair 2 consumed tools of the same type to make a new one. This can save materials because you will repair only 2 consumed tools and not a consumed tool and a new tool.)

Bed

If you haven`t already made a bed, you should get some wool to make one! Here`s a reminder for the crafting recipe:

NOTE: Wood can be any kind but wool must be identical

Next Day

Here`s a tutorial for The Third Day.

Tips

  • Can`t get your head around a crafting table? See Crafting for everything you need to know about crafting tables, including recipes.
  • If you are hungry or low on health, kill a passive mob, or cut down some trees or do something else to get food (see fishing rod). As of 1.1, oak tree and dark oak leaves now drop apples, which can be eaten. Collect them if you find them, but they are rare so don`t rely on them.
  • If you have less than 3.5 hunger points, you can`t sprint. If you have 9 or more hunger points, you will slowly recover health.
  • If you are really desperate you can also eat rotten flesh dropped by zombies, but be warned this will also increase how fast you lose hunger until the effect "Hunger" goes away. This is very useful if you have less than 2 hunger points and only have rotten flesh.
  • Bed not working? Get on the same level as the bed, and then try it. If that doesn`t work, make sure there are no monsters around you, and that it`s night-time. You should drift off to sleep. For more help, talk on the discussion page for more help from fellow Minecrafters. Also, make sure your bed is not obstructed, else, when you die you will return to your original spawn point upon death, which could be far away.
  • Do not mine a recolored coal-like block unless you`re using something better than a wooden pickaxe. Destroying this kind of block with a pickaxe that isn`t of the right type will prevent it from dropping an object. Check the ores for more information regarding the different types of ores and the tools required. You can easily determine if you cannot mine a block if it takes too long to mine it.
  • If you feel that your home is too far from your original spawn point, just relocate your house. If it is made of weak materials (Dirt, wood, etc.) then you can just break it and move it closer to your original spawn point. If your house and/or bed is destroyed by creepers or many aggressive mobs are near or in your house, having your home close to your spawn point will help you. You can easily find your house without looking for a few minutes and risk being killed again. Alternatively, you can sleep in a bed to relocate your spawn point.
  • Remember that your items disappear within 5 minutes of your death. Get to your items quickly, or you could have to start over!
  • If you don`t have iron tools and armor, don`t try to venture at night so much.
