Magma blocks emit a light level of 3. Due to a bug, it can "preserve" higher light levels in some circumstances even after the original light source is removed.
When water is directly above a magma block, there is a random chance the water will be destroyed with smoke particles.
Magma blocks emit smoke particles under rainfall.

Trivia
- If a player dies from touching a Magma Block, the death message will read: "
discovered floor was lava." - Despite dealing 1/2 a heart of damage to the player, much like a cactus in the overworld, it can`t be used to dispose of items. However, it can be used to surround a base, if so desired. The benefit of this is due to its major abundance in the Nether.
- In 1.12, magma blocks lit on fire will stay lit forever, much like Netherrack.
- This is one of only a few blocks with a constantly-changing animated texture, another example being Sea Lanterns.
Obtaining
Magma blocks can be mined using any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, it will drop nothing.

A Magma Block is basically a solid version of Lava. This block deals roughly half a heart of damage for each second that a Player or Mob is in contact with it, regardless of Armor or protective Enchantments.
It is possible to walk across magma without taking damage, by applying the Frost Walker enchantment to a pair of boots or sneaking.
