- Sugar cane can be found next to ice, though when updated they will drop as items. This can be observed at random when running through a snowy biome.
- If you try to set ice on fire with a flint and steel no flames will appear, but the flint and steel will still act as if it had been used (its durability will decrease slightly). The same thing happens with glass and the sides of non-flammable blocks.
- Ice is not transparent in Pocket Edition. However items/blocks that cannot be placed on transparent blocks such as ice (i.e. torches) still may not be placed.
Natural generation
Ice can be found naturally as part of the landscape in snowy biomes from frozen lakes, rivers, and oceans. It can also be found in igloos Igloo Biome Ice Plains, Cold Taiga Consists of Snow White Carpet Light Gray Carpet Ice (Packed Ice in Pocket Edition.) Snowy biomes
Water source blocks in a snowy biome will eventually freeze into ice if exposed to the sky from directly above, the light level immediately adjacent to the water block on all sides is less than 13, and there is at least one horizontally adjacent non-water block. Usage
Ice is slightly slippery, causing entities to slide, including items. This also allows for increased speed in water currents by placing the ice block under the water current. If a player runs and jumps repeatedly on ice, they will travel faster than they would on any other block type.

The presence of ice can be used as an indicator of a Tundra, Taiga, or Ice Plains Spikes Biome. A player can break ice without a Tool, but will do so fastest with a Pickaxe. Ice is very similar to Snow,₠in the sense that it melts when it comes into close proximity of Fire,a Torch, or Lava. Ice is not affected by fire, but when melted with lava, it will produce Water. This will also happen if ice is destroyed and there is a block beneath it.
Ice produces a "slippery" effect when moving across its surface. Players can Sprint faster across ice, than other surfaces. Entities and Items may slide a distance across a patch of ice.
Uses
Ice does not commonly have a use, and was most likely implemented in Minecraft for show and visual effect. Ice cannot naturally be gathered. However, if a Pickaxe has the Silk Touch Enchantment, Ice can successfully be gathered without destroying it.
Ice can be used to make traps, but is not efficient in this as water makes a better substitute in moving mobs. Melted Ice will disappear in the Nether.
In Mob traps, Ice is great for making faster Mob delivery systems. Water traveling over Ice propels items and Mobs faster, decreasing the amount of time the Player must wait.
