Since the player may choose three out of eight potential powers, he has a 37% chance to get a particular Hero Power if only one Hero Power is acceptable. If two Powers are acceptable, there is a 64% chance of receiving one of these Powers. If three Powers are acceptable, there is a 82% chance of receiving one of these Powers. If four Powers are acceptable, there is a 93% chance of receiving one of these Powers. If five Powers are acceptable, there is a 103% chance of receiving one of these Powers.

Sir Finley Mrrgglton is often used in constructed decks where the class Hero Powers does not match the goal of the deck. Examples of decks that he is useful in include:

Aggro Shaman is a deck that tries to kill the opponent as fast as possible with burn spells. Totemic Call isn`t particularly useful for this purpose, so Sir Finley fits perfectly in this deck. The best two Hero Powers are Life Tap and Steady Shot, both which provide the Shaman with additional potential damage. Shapeshift also deserves a special mention as it gives the Shaman two extra damage when used in combination with Doomhammer.

Egg Druid is an aggressive deck that relies on getting a sticky board up and then finishing off the opponent with a Savage Roar. The Druid Hero Power is one of the worst out of the nine basic powers to accomplish this goal. Life Tap allows the Druid to keep up with the draws while Steady Shot puts a clock on the opponent. Both Reinforce and Totemic Call summon more minions, which can synergize with Power of the Wild, Soul of the Forest, or Savage Roar. Fireblast acts as a slightly better Shapeshift. Finally, Lesser Heal can help maintain the Druid`s board.

Patron Warrior is a tempo-oriented deck that generally has no use for more armor with Armor Up!. As with most decks, Patron Warrior appreciates more cards, so Life Tap is always a welcome choice. Lesser Heal is also a great surprising pick as it helps maintain the Patron Warrior`s board, notably healing Grim Patrons. Fireblast works amazingly in this deck, activating cards like Accolyte of Pain, Grim Patron, and Execute. Note that there are times where you don`t actually want to play Sir Finley Mrrgglton, specifically against burn decks such as Face Hunter, Aggro Shaman, and Freeze Mage.

Strategy

The key factor for strategy with this card is RNG "I think it’s important for there to be some kind of randomness in the game. I think it creates great stories and I don’t think you want a game that is entirely no RNG. Heck, hearthstone . With a 3/8 (37.5%) chance of getting any particular Hero Power, it is hard to rely on obtaining the Power you want. Be that as it may, if several possibilities provide useful synergy with your deck - or the needs of the moment - it can be a reasonable play.

Notes

Discovering a new Hero Power
  • Sir Finley Mrrgglton will not offer the basic Hero Power corresponding to your current Hero Power`s class as one of the three choices. The excluded option is not affected by your class or hero, but only by your Hero Power`s class (for a list of each Hero Power`s class, see Player Hero Powers).
Example: Regardless of your current hero and class, Lesser Heal Lesser Heal Type: Hero Power Class: Priest Cost: 2 Abilities: Restore Health Hero Power Restore 2 Health.See this card on Hearthpwn data page] Lesser Heal is the priest s basic Hero Power. Probability analysis

Players can evaluate the likely usefulness of Sir Finley based on how many powers would accomplish their goals:

  • Four Hero Powers (92.9%): Deal 1 damage to attackable opponent (Druid, Mage, Rogue, Hunter)
  • Three Hero Powers (82.1%): Deal 1 damage to minion (Druid, Mage, Rogue), "heal" self by 1 (Druid, Warrior, Priest)*
  • Two Hero Powers (64.3%): Deal 1 damage to opponent past Taunt (Mage, Hunter), "heal" self by 2 (Warrior, Priest)*, summon a minion (Paladin, Shaman)
  • One Hero Power (37.5%): Heal 1 damage to a minion by end of turn (Priest)*, any single Hero Power

The chances listed assume the player does not already have one of the powers they are looking for; if they do the chances would decrease since that power has no chance of being offered by Sir Finley.

In addition, scenarios marked with * have a slightly increased chance of success if a player is willing or desperate enough to risk the 25% chance of a Discovered Totemic Call producing the correct totem in the case an ideal Hero Power is not Discovered. Stoneclaw Totem Stoneclaw Totem Set: Basic Type: Minion Subtype: Totem Class: Shaman Cost: 1 Attack: 0 Health: 2 Abilities: Taunt TauntSee this card on Hearthpwn data page] For the option provided by Totemic Slam, see Stoneclaw Totem hearthstone can act as an effective "self-heal" of two or more by blocking minion attack damage, and Healing Totem will heal minion damage at the end of the turn. This would slightly supplement the listed chances of completing an objective based on one, two, or three "ideal" powers by 6.7%, 4.5%, and 2.7% respectively. For instance, a player at 1 health facing a 1/3 minion would have an 82.1% chance of Discovering one of the three direct defensive powers, and an additional 10.7% chance of Discovering Totemic Call, but with only 1/4 chances of that Totemic Call dropping Stoneclaw Totem Stoneclaw Totem Set: Basic Type: Minion Subtype: Totem Class: Shaman Cost: 1 Attack: 0 Health: 2 Abilities: Taunt TauntSee this card on Hearthpwn data page] For the option provided by Totemic Slam, see Stoneclaw Totem hearthstone for an overall boost of 2.7% (84.8% total). This logic only works if the player does not already have a Shaman power, since otherwise Totemic Call would have no chance of being offered.

Trivia

  • As of its release, this is one of the only Discover cards to include options from other classes. In fact, its behaviour is essentially the opposite to most Discover effects, in that it only selects Hero Powers that do not match the class of the player`s current Hero Power.
  • Sir Finley makes an appearance in the cinematic trailer for One Night in Karazhan, where he can be seen relaxing in a hot tub along with Reno Jackson and a cow.
  • Sir Finley also appears on the artwork of Unite the Murlocs.
