This page serves to document the abilities that have any effect on Familiars. Unlisted spells either cannot target Familiars, or do not affect them when active.
General Guidelines:
- As of gameplay version 6.84b, Familiars do not have health. They require 3 hero, 6 tower or 12 non-hero attacks to be destroyed.
- Familiars can only take damage when directly targeted.
- Familiars can only regenerate health points from Stone Form. They cannot be healed. Healing spells and items can be cast on them, but these will have no actual effect.
- Familiars can only be stunned and bashed when directly attacked, they don`t suffer AoE stuns.
- Familiars are affected by damage buffs/debuffs, but will only affect the base 10 damage and not the damage charges. (e.g. Anchor Smash will reduce Familiars damage by 60% x 10 = 6).
- Enemies cannot use lifesteal Lifesteal allows the attacking unit to gain health when damaging an enemy, which includes any attack modifier with attack damage. The lifesteal ability can be gained via items, passive abilities or the auras of other from Familiars. Familiars are also unable to regenerate life points from allied lifesteal auras and spells.
- Familiars are affected by attack speed The frequency with which units attack is measured in attack speed. A unit s attack speed can be modified by items, agility, abilities, and auras. Contents 1 Base attack time 2 Attack speed representation 3 Attack buffs/debuffs.
- Familiars are affected by armor Armor is an attribute shared by all units. Armor is used to determine the amount of damage reduction (or amplification if an armor value is negative) a unit takes from physical damage sources. Higher armor & magic resistance Magic resistance is an attribute of heroes, similar to armor. Instead of reducing physical damage, it reduces magical damage. All heroes, except for Meepo and Visage, possess 25% magic resistance from their armor type. This buffs/debuffs, though the amount of armor they have does not affect the actual damage taken, due to them not having health.
- Familiars are targeted by all multi-projectile attack spells ( Split Shot, Moon Glaive, Flak Cannon).
- Familiars are not affected as secondary targets by cleave Cleave causes a melee unit s attacks to deal a portion of its damage in an area in front of it. Contents 1 Mechanics 2 Sources of cleave 3 Splash 4 Sources of splash 5 See or cleave-like abilities ( Great Cleave, Tidebringer, Psi Blades, etc.).

- Familiars will receive armor reduction but will not take damage.
- Health regen debuff will be applied, no damage will be dealt.

- Can be cast on Familiars, but no damage will be dealt, regardless of distance travelled.

- Familiars can be targeted, but won`t be healed.
- Familiars can be targeted and will be silenced, but won`t take damage over time.

- Familiars will be revealed, but their movement speed will not be slowed.
- Familiars will be counted towards the unit count, but will not take any damage.

- Familiars will be disabled, but no damage will be dealt.
- Each hit will count as one attack on a Familiar.
- No damage will be dealt, but movement speed will be slowed.
- Huskar will leap towards the Familiar and will be dealt his damage, but no damage will be dealt to the Familiar.
- Legion Commander Hero Strategy Counters Equipment Gear Responses Sounds Lore Old Abilities Changelogs Legion Commander 26 + 2.9 18 + 1.7 20 + 2.2 Level - Overwhelming OddsFamiliars are counted towards the unit count and are considered creeps. Legion Commander will receive an additional 3% movement speed, and an additional 14/16/18/20 damage dealt to other units in the area. No damage will be dealt to Familiars.
- Familiars are targetable and Chain Frost will bounce to and from Familiars, but no damage will be dealt and movement speed will remain unchanged.
- Luna - Moon Glaive
- Lycan - Howl
- Magnus - EmpowerDamage will not be dealt if they are in the cleave radius.
- Medallion of Courage - Valor
- Medusa - Mystic SnakeSpell cannot be targeted on Familiars, but the snake will bounce to them. No mana will be stolen (Familiars have no mana) and no damage will be dealt.
- Medusa - Split Shot
- Mekansm - Mekansm AuraThe buff icon is shown for the Familiars, but they do not benefit from the effects of the aura.
- Mekansm - Restore

- Mjollnir - Static ChargeStatic Charge can be placed on allied Familiars, but no damage will be dealt to enemy Familiars by the lightning shocks.
- Nature`s Prophet - Wrath of NatureFamiliars will be hit by the projectile and count towards the unit count, but no damage will be dealt.
- Necronomicon Archer - Archer Aura
- Necrophos - Death PulseWhen Necrophos kills a Familiar, the Familiar is treated as a creep, meaning Necrophos only gains one stack of health and mana regen.
